The heady month of December signifies many things: the winter solstice, holiday parties, shorter days and the end of the year when people feel generous and looking for tax write-offs. The season is awash with black-tie events and m-Art has designed materials for two. Saturday, December 3rd, Scripps Memorial Hospital in San Diego will host its 82nd Annual Candlelight Ball. Known for its elegant decor, swinging sounds and attended by chairman Betty Knight Scripps, the Ball is among the longest-running events going. The look and feel has centered around salmon-colored roses, Mrs. Scripp's favorite. We experimented with digital printing, even on the large run of the invitations. The result was rich, intense client-pleasing colors that stayed consistent to the shorter run program covers.
Next up on December 19 is the Choral Arts Society of Washington's Annual Holiday Concert & Benefit. Guests are first treated to a choral Christmas Concert, and then served an elegant evening dinner on the top floor of the Kennedy Center. The silent auction boasts everything from African safaris to Harley Davidson riding lessons. Washington, D.C. is home to scores of embassies, perfect partners for gala events. This year's Russian theme paired well with bold reds and golds, and of course vodka and salmon on the menu. The event logo is set in Waters Titling, by local calligrapher Julian Waters. The built-in swashes were a big hit.
